CycleOps Magneto Trainer Review
The CycleOps Magneto Trainer is a progressive resistance turbo trainer that increases its resistance the faster and harder you go. Literally, that means the faster your ride, the more resistance you will experience from the unit. It’s just like shifting up through the gears when you are riding around outside. This gives the CycleOps Magneto Trainer a very realistic riding experience that you will not find in any many other magnetic turbo trainers on the market. However, the Mag trainer does struggle a little when you accelerate quickly or put in a hard sprint.
The only real negative side to the CycleOps Magneto trainer is that you cannot manually increase your resistance. Because it relies on the faster you go, the higher your resistance – the louder the trainer becomes. The CycleOps Mag Trainer registers in at 66 to 68 decibels at 20mph. This, however, equates to a very easy effort so when cranking out high-intensity intervals the unit becomes very loud indeed. Something anyone with neighbors should give some good thought to.
The CycleOps Magneto Trainer has a very clean look with no wires running from the turbo to the handlebars. The two legs will fold out offering a very stable base with adjustable feet for any surface whether smooth or uneven. It’s also designed for very easy storage. The QR is held in place by a spring-loaded lever which gives a feeling of greater security all round.
The CycleOps Magneto Trainer is a great progressive resistance turbo trainer. It provides an excellent secured base that will keep you at ease even during your hardest sprint efforts. The only true downside, it is very loud and becomes even louder when your speed is increased. You probably should not use it in the middle of the night – your neighbors will not appreciate it!
The CycleOps Magneto Trainer is offered at a very reasonable cost of $289.99
